Insect Dissection

Hello boys & girls!

Today is a tiring day. Last night I went to Sue's place to accompany her. She broke up with Jared & didn't wanna be alone... 胡思亂想 lor... y'know? Yes, you know. Anyways, I slept in her room but at the foot of her bed, on her nice carpeted floor. Haha! U don't expect me to sleep in bed with her right! So yes, the floor was just fine, no worries. =) Anyways, we slept at about 12:30am, which is quite early for me. *nods* I got up at 2:50am because my stupid head had no support & the floor was abit too hard even though it was carpetted. So I lay there thinking what I should do. And I got up & unplugged my charger silently, then crept outside to the living room. Stepped out on the balcony to look at the stars, and I remembered about 3 days ago was the peak of the Orionid meteor showers. U could see moderately bright meteors at very dark places. So I was hoping to catch 1 or 2 meteors but unfortunately, couldn't. Stupid BP across the road was like daylight can... *bleah* Anyways, got back in & laid on the sofa & fell asleep till 4am when my alarm rang. The sky wasn't bright enough yet, so I went back to sleep. 5am, Sue SMS me and I got up. Talked a few sentences with her, then I went off le. Cycled home to get my butterfly net, then off I go, catch insects! Yay!

Got to UQ Lake, looked around for dragonflies, cannot even see 1 lor. There were plenty of damselflies though, and being from the same family (Odonata), the damselflies had a similar preying method and would probably be alright for dissection as a predator. Stayed at the lake for a short short while, then went to the Botany Garden at the soccer field there, caught some harlequins and tree-hoppers (both are from Hemiptera). Wah, super duper hungry lor. SMSed Eunice to see if she might be on her way to sch so I can hv breakfast with her, but apparently not. Oh wells... Pancakes! 2 for $1.90 @ Physio!

After a sugray breakfast, I pedalled on to Banksia Park. Didn't see much there also... *sigh* So disappointing. Just a butterfly. *bleah* Anyhoo, came home & bathed & stuff, then Sue came over & I started to pin my insects. Pinning isn't part of my assignment, mind you. It's just for fun. Haha! After lunch, I snoozed abit then started dissecting my 3 insects. 4, actually... had a last minute decision to drown the caterpillar in EtOH... *evil grin*

This here is the Harlequin, after dissection. Look at the oesophagus stretched taut between the head & thorax! And if you'd look at where the abdomen was, you'll see all the intestines & what not... Yep! Insects have guts too!

Dissected cricket... can't see much, except maybe the gonads, which are the 4 pale pale yellow balls on the walls of the abdomen.

Stupid damselfly... so skinny, cannot see anything at all lor, inside the abdomen. But I just did it to show I did do some work.

The last-minute decision! Haha! 4 things to observe here:
1. That main bulk of dark green stuff, that's the gut I think. All the chewed up cellulose.
2. The pale yellowish whitish coils just below the gut. I don't really know what those might be... possibly the... umm... hmm... the-e-e... I dunno. Haha!
3. The bright green line across the body. I also dunno what.
4. The darker yellowish blob near the pin. Maybe that's like the bile duct or the gall bladder or something. I seriously dunno man.

See? I dunno so much things. That's why I need to research tonight. This assignment is due tmr lor. *sigh* Tonight must install the color ink. Idiotic. Why must printing color in sch be so expensive? Huh? $1/pc... out to chop carrots. Well, I'm not a carrot! I'm a brinjal (coz it's purple! *giggles*) so u can't chop me...

Wah, so sleepy can.

Actually I was doing my malaria assignment. Was going through all the windows on the taskbar when I got to this one. Haha! And so I blogged.

And now I feel sleepy. Maybe I should take a short PowerNap? *ponders* It's so tempting. I think I should. Haha!

OH YA! Tmr morning 11am got revision prac. Shit. I think I should go. Maybe Tom Cribb would give us some tips...

Ok ok... PowerNap.

ZzzZZ...

When he was looking up at the stars, she was in much agony. How he wished he could travel on a meteor to her side, and comfort her like the precious one she is.

Love me if you dare... 15:58
